Roxey Ballet Announces Fall for Ballet
Roxey Ballet, a contemporary ballet company based in Lambertville, announced its fall season today, Fall for Ballet 2007.
The company, with dancers from all over the world, will kick off its season on October 20, 2007 with 12 x 12 x 12, a celebration of 12 years of Roxey Ballet featuring 12 repertory pieces by 12 Roxey Ballet dancers. Each of the pieces will represent one year of RB choreography, with each work re-imagined by Artistic Director Mark Roxey.
12 x 12 x 12 will be performed in two shows, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., at the J.P. Case Middle School Theater in Flemington, New Jersey.
I am really excited about the opportunity to revisit these historic pieces, said Artistic Director Mark Roxey. I am a different choreographer now than when I created these works and some of the dancers in the company are different as well. It will be a whole different dance experience for the dancers and the audience.
This year, Roxey Ballet dancers hail from Korea, Japan and Canada as well as the United States. Mark Roxey values diversity in his company.
I think that having individuals from different countries brings a lot to the company. Ballet is a common language but each dancer contributes something unique from his or her own culture, said Roxey.
Roxey Ballet’s next show in the season will be the venerable holiday classic, the Nutcracker, to be performed November 24, 25 and 26 at Villa Victoria Theater in Ewing, New Jersey. Over 100 professional dancers, pre-professional dance students, children and community members participate in this holiday tradition.
This will be our twelfth Nutcracker Season and each year it just gets better, says Paul Mirowsky, a Lambertville resident and veteran party parent. I am not a professional dancer, but I really enjoy participating in this performance.
In addition to three general admission performances on Saturday and Sunday, November 24 and 25, Roxey Ballet offers a 10 a.m. performance on Monday, November 26 specifically directed to school groups. The Nutcracker is well suited to introduce children to classical music and the ballet and many school groups have taken advantage of this opportunity over the years.
In addition to its two main stage productions for the fall season, Roxey Ballet is inaugurating several new community outreach activities. RB will continue its popular Brown Bag & the Ballet series providing community members the chance to spend their lunch hour watching RB dancers rehearse. This unique opportunity lets people get a close look at the work that goes into the final grace and elegance of a performance.
A new initiative, Tutus & Tiaras, is designed to introduce young children to the ballet through interactive storytelling. Children, ages 3 to 7, will have the opportunity to engage with the dancers and take part in age appropriate dance activity. Tutus & Tiaras will be offered on selected Tuesday mornings throughout the season.
Beer and Ballet is another new initiative, offering an older audience a unique opportunity to interact directly with RB dancers in discussion, informal choreography and improvisational dance.
A professional ballet company is a real cultural resource, said Mark Roxey. I want to give members of our community every opportunity to get to know Roxey Ballet and our wonderful dancers.
