Are you in the early stages of pregnancy? Are you planning a pregnancy? Did you know that:
- 12% of all pregnancies end in a preterm labor, potentially endangering your baby’s health?
- Gaining too much or too little weight can result in a complicated pregnancy and delivery?
- Stress can result in complications during pregnancy?
- Although many complications can occur late in a pregnancy, the
roots of these problems often begin in the early stages of pregnancy - Both moms and dads go through tremendous changes in becoming
parents, and talking about this can help their adjustment?
But, did you also know that:
- There are many things you can do that may prevent preterm labor
- Learning easy ways to eat well and exercise help a mom to gain
just the right amount of weight - Simple stress management techniques can lower the risk of
problems occurring - Meeting other expectant parents is fun and can help a couple in
their journey toward parenthood.
Hunterdon Medical Center is introducing Healthy Mamas, a free program
for moms and dads-to-be which focuses on adjusting to parenthood, eating well, managing stress and exercising wisely; as well as information about making feeding choices, and what can be done to reduce the risk of remature labor and other complications of pregnancy, thus helping to have a healthy baby. This program also gives couples an opportunity to meet and talk with other expectant couples experiencing the same changes.
This program is a series of four classes, and will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. beginning September 15th at Hunterdon Medical Center. The class is open to pregnant couples up to the 20th week of pregnancy, as well as couples who are planning on becoming pregnant.
“Healthy Mamas is not intended to replace visits to their healthcare provider, but to provide a casual place where they can learn and get their many questions answered, as they journey towards parenthood,” explained Jean Jamele, RN, Director of Parenting and Childbirth Education at Hunterdon Medical Center.
Couples completing the series will receive a $35 credit toward a Childbirth Education class at Hunterdon Medical Center. Registration is required. For questions, or to register, call Parenting and Childbirth Education Services at 908-788-MOMS (6667). The Healthy Mamas program has been generously funded in part by sanofi-aventis and includes a light dinner.
