‘Last fall, I held my daughter’s birthday party at Peaceful Valley Orchards in Pittstown, NJ. The party was a hit with all of the children! Located on the farm, the kids were able to take in the countryside as well as interact with the farm animals! Peaceful Valley Orchards provided pizza, drinks, birthday cake, and coffee for the adults. Also provided was coloring books, crafts, and games. It was perfect! I would recommend a party at Peaceful Valley Orchards for any child’s birthday!’ - from Hunterdon Mom Carlie
“Magic Glass Studio is a great place for birthday parties of any age child, boys and girls. I had my daughter’s 7th birthday party there and my son has asked to have his there also. The owner is so friendly and great with kids. They are in Lambertville.” - from Huntedon Mom Susan
‘I had my son’s 4th birthday party at JW Tumbles in Clinton. It was great. Althoug a little expensive, the women who ran it handled everything. I talked to the other parents, took pictures and enjoyed the wonderful time. They also have a “snowball fight” at the very end with nerf balls between the parents and the children. What a blast. We had so much fun. I cannot rave enough about it. I look forward to doing it again!’ - from Hunterdon Mom Robin Behn
“We had my son’s 8th Birthday Party at Branchburg Family Golf. It was not too pricey and the Children loved it.”
“Michael’s Arts and Crafts Store holds adorable craft making birthday parties, starting from $6.oo and up per child. All you supply is cake, juice, plates and cups. They even clean up for you. I had my daughters’ 6th and 5th birthday parties there. My son had a great time, too!”
“Caron’s Ceramics in Lebanon plaza - inexpensive party and messy, just the way the kids like it! it is also great for a rainy day get away with the kids.”
“U.S. Taekwondo Center will do birthday parties at very reasonable prices. High energy and alot of fun. Also gives kids and parents a look at the martial arts. Birthday child gets break a board!!! ”
“Whitehouse Station Fire House”
“Memory Lane (tea party) in Somerville”
“Black River and Western RR although it’s a little pricey, I thought it would be a great idea - 1 hr. & 10 minute private train ride on the club car - accommodates up to 40 ppl.”
“I suggest that people check into their local firehouses. I recently had a birthday party for my daughter who turned four at our local firehouse. There was lots of parking, loads of running-around space, and it didn’t matter if it rained or shined outside. Now, I am a member of the Stockton FC Auxiliary, so I got a special members rate, but it would have been a bargain at twice the price. And the money is going to support a good cause, which felt a little nicer that giving it to Chuck E. Cheese! I supplied my own food and decorations. I just got pizza, but used the kitchen for setting things up. Firehouses usually have gigantic kitchens! Our firefighters gave the kids fire truck rides. We rented the Stockton Firehouse, but I imagine lots of local firehouses are available to rent for a day for a party. Check your local phone book for the number to call. Prices vary, depending on the facilities. Many moms commented on what a great place it was to have a party. And, no house to clean up.”
“My girlfriend just had her 4 year olds birthday party at Art Attack in Flemington. It was very cute. Each child got to pick out a piece to paint and then was allowed to pick out 6 colors of paint and then was allowed to paint their piece however they wanted. They have different kinds of party packages there.”
“We went to a park with a covered area and let the children play on the equipment for a while while the parents were able to get to know each other better. We then barbequed hot dogs and had chips for all that attended. We then had a few party games (drop the clothespin in the jar, etc.) and then ended with a pinata and birthday cake. It was very inexpensive but yet it was a lot of fun. We went through the County Park and recreation department to reserve the covered area and I think there was a $15 deposit.”
“We have attended many parties at HealthQuest and they do a fantastic job planning and presenting the party. The best part of all is the parents just pay, the rest is done.”
“I belong to Healthquest Fitness Center….There they do parties for all ages….They are 1.5 hr parties…You can choose from different themes….Ex: Gymnastics, t-ball, maze play, tea parties etc….Kids seem to like it….And like Chucke E Cheeses you don’t have to do a thing.”
“We rented the V.F.W. Hall in Glen Gardner (since I didn’t want 25 kids at the house) and The Glen Gardner Volunteer Fire Company brought a fire truck with 3 firemen to the party. They taught the kids all about the equipment on the truck, fire safety, smoke detectors, matches, stay low and go and a number of other important safety issues. Then the kids were allowed to climb onto the truck where the firefighter’s ride. They provided hats, badges, stickers, brochures, pencils, coloring books and crayons for all of the children which we used for their goody bags. They stayed about 45 minutes and the kids just loved it. I bought a fire truck piñata but never had a chance to use it because the party went by so quickly. There is a picture attached which shows the firemen talking to the kids. The V.F.W. is a great place for a party because when you rent it you get it for the day and it has an inside and outside party area available. The outside is a large, covered pavilion with 20 picnic tables and plenty of space for the kids to run around. The inside is air conditioned and bigger than the outside pavilion. There are plenty of bathrooms and a full kitchen. The adults enjoyed the party as much as the kids and it was a unique experience for all. In return for all of our learning and entertainment we made a donation to the fire company since there was no charge for them to do this and they are all volunteers. I know this was the first birthday party they did but they all enjoyed it and would definitely do it for anyone else who asks.”
“Dan at Super Science Programs for kids does amazing hands-on birthday parties. Everything from rockets to chemical magic! Lakota Wolf Preserve is another great place to bring the kids and there is a lake for swimming -Enjoy!”
“I had attended a Patriots Baseball Birthday Party last season and the kids loved it. They do a great job with entertaining the kids. The cutest part was the birthday child was sung to on the field during on of their in between inning promotions. It is very affordable and kids seem to love it.” from Hunterdon Mom Jennifer Goddard
“We took my 8 year old to a Somerset patriots game with some of his friends. Tickets are only about $8, so even if you spring for popcorn and soda, it’s not too bad. Also, for winter b-days, rent out the Lodge at Echo Hill Park in Lebanon. It’s got a fireplace, nearby playground and we brought in a clown for one hour.”
“We recently hosted a birthday party for my daughter at the Hunterdon Museum of Art. It was a clay mold and paint party which took place for two hours. The kids really enjoyed themselves. It was great fun and Nan was terrific. The next time we go, I would pay extra for an extra hour. The kids became very involved and two hours was too short.”
“When my daughter was 7, 8 and 9. My husband and I would rent two adjourning rooms at local hotel. We would be in one room and the kids in the other. We lived in a condo at the time so this was the answer to have about 10 kids sleep over and keep them busy! We had use of the pool, and game room. I would bring in pizzas and then bagels for breakfast. I would bring my VCR from home and bring a movie. With crafts, movie, pool and game room - it was a fun filled night. All the girls were great and I knew none of them would leave the room at night. That was discussed with the girls that night. It was so fun.”
