Take Control of Your Health

Are you or a loved one living with Arthritis, Asthma, Diabetes, Osteoporosis or other chronic condition?

Take Control of Your Health is a free six-session (2 ½ hours each) health education workshop with a free reference book provided. The workshop will be held at the Deer Path Branch of the Hunterdon County YMCA and is for persons and/or their caregivers who are dealing any ongoing and long-term health conditions. In this workshop, participants will learn to manage symptoms, develop healthy eating & exercise habits, communicate effectively with doctors, manage fear, anger and frustration, make daily tasks easier and get more out of life.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 pm beginning July 7 through August 11 at the Deer Path Branch of the Hunterdon County YMCA, 144 West Woodschurch Road, Flemington. Open House

The Hunterdon County YMCA invites everyone to come out of the heat and into the YMCA! On Wednesday, July 21 both branches of the Hunterdon County YMCA will be open to everyone in the community at no cost. The fitness centers at both branches, which include cardio equipment, Cybex strength equipment, and free weights, will be available for use by adults and teens 15 years and over. In addition, all fitness classes will be open to the public, including the YMCA’s popular Group Power, Group Kick, Group Step, Group Groove and Indoor Cycling classes. Babysitting is available for parents of young children who would like to try out the Y facilities. Please visit our website for www.hcymca.org, for the fitness class schedule and babysitting hours.

The Deer Path Branch is located at 144 West Woodschurch Road, Flemington, NJ 08822, (908) 782-1030 and the Round Valley Branch is located at 1410 Route 22 West, Annandale, NJ 08801, (908) 236-0055. The Hunterdon County YMCA will be open to the community during its regular operating hours: 5:15 am – 10:00 pm at the Deer Path Branch and 5:15 am – 9:30 pm at the Round Valley Branch.

The Hunterdon County YMCA has been serving the county for over 100 years and is a family-oriented community service organization. The YMCA offers a wide variety of programs and services to meet your family’s needs.

Before/After School Care
The Hunterdon County YMCA operates Before and After School Programs at 18 county schools. All programs are licensed by the state of New Jersey and the adult to child ratio averages 1:10. Program activities include homework time, group activities, community service projects, and a time for free play. Programs run on most school holidays.

Full Day Child Care
Conveniently located with easy access to Route 78, Route 22 and Route 31, the Child Care and Learning Center in Annandale provides flexible 5 full day or 3 full day enrollment options for Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers.

Preschools
YMCA Preschools are located in Clinton and Milford where we provide developmentally appropriate group and individual experiences for children ages 2 ½ to 5 years of age in a half-day learning enriched setting. Children learn readiness skills and social interaction skills in a warm and nurturing environment. School year runs September to June.

Summer Camps
The Hunterdon County YMCA offers day camp programs at four locations throughout the county, YMCA Camp Carr in Clinton Township, Sports Camp at the Deer Path Branch in Flemington, South Camp in West Amwell and Kinder Camp for children ages 3-5 at the Round Valley Branch in Annandale. Extended care is available and transportation is available for Camp Carr and Sports Camp.

Programs, Sports and Activities
The YMCA offers swimming lessons, youth sports, dance, gymnastics, karate, youth/teen fitness classes, and fun activities for the whole family. Parent-tot programs are available for swimming, dance and gymnastics.

Fitness
A Hunterdon County YMCA membership is one of the best investments you can make for personal or family well-being and fun. Membership includes use of the Deer Path Branch (Flemington), Round Valley Branch (Annandale) unlimited land and water exercise classes, the YMCA Camp Carr Outdoor Pool (evenings and weekends in season), babysitting, and a special rate of youth classes.

As a mission driven, community organization, the YMCA is committed to the philosophy that “everyone belongs at the Y” and provides financial assistance for all who qualify. In addition, the Hunterdon County YMCA relies on the help of volunteers to best serve the community. Each year, over 450 individuals volunteer for the Hunterdon County YMCA.

Shop-Rite and Hunterdon Medical Center Host Cooking Classes

Shop-Rite of Flemington and Clinton and the Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Management at Hunterdon Medical Center will host two cooking demonstrations for the public entitled Thrill of the Grill, Caribbean Style. The class will be held at the Shop-Rite in Clinton on July 8th at 6:00 p.m. and at the Shop-Rite in Flemington on July 15th at 6:00 p.m.

Attendees will enjoy learning how to prepare: Grilled Pizza three styles, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Calaloo and All that Veg, Caribbean Summer Salad, Grilled Plaintains Parfait and Coconut Lemonade. Samples will be provided for all attendees. This class will also focus on the following health topics: hydration, Caribbean Food Pyramid, beans & greens, spices, and to char or not to char.

“Live Right” Merchandisers Margaret Dobbs and Sheila Suerig, Shop-Rite nutritionist, Susan Lang-Saponara, R.D. and Hunterdon Medical Center Registered Dietitian Velta Soucie, R.D., CDE, will facilitate the classes. The fee for the cooking class is $20 per person. Registration is limited. To register stop by the courtesy counter at Shop-Rite in Clinton or Flemington.

Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers Offer Free Program:Fiscal Fitness…A Blueprint for Financial Success

The Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers in Whitehouse Station and Clinton are dedicated to providing health enhancement and disease prevention programs for the community. As part of their July education series, the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers will offer Fiscal Fitness… A Blueprint for Financial, on July 12th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Whitehouse Station and on July 15th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Clinton. This program will be led Anne Blaine and Vincent Miseo, Financial Services Professionals with New York Life Insurance Company (member FINRA/SIPC). During this event Anne and Vincent will present some basic components of setting a financial foundation, show the value of setting and achieving solid financial goals and share some helpful tips on ways to budget and help become debt free. This is an opportunity to talk one-on-one with professionals and get your questions answered.

Additionally, everyone who attends this workshop will receive a complimentary workbook that contains exercises that will reinforce what they’ve learned during the workshop.

This program is free and participants will receive a guest pass to be used at the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers. Weight Management Class Offered For Pregnant Moms-To-Be

The Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Management is offering a new class, Weight Management for Pregnant Mommas. The class will meet July 15th and 22nd from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Management, 9100 Wescott Drive, Suite 102 in Flemington.

A Registered Dietitian will discuss information on:
- Starting a pregnancy with extra pounds? What you should do.
- Eating for two? How many calories you really need.
- Portions distorted? How to plan your plate.
- Confused in the grocery store? How to decipher labels.
- How to plan quick, healthy and pregnancy friendly meals.
-After the baby, then what? Post pregnancy weight loss tips.

The fee for this class series is $50. With completion of both classes, participants can choose to receive a $35 voucher towards Childbirth Education classes at Hunterdon Medical Center or a $20 Shop-Rite gift card sponsored by the Central NJ Maternal Child Health Consortium.
